Last week a 27-year-old woman known as Farkhunda was killed by an angry mob of men in the Afghan capital, Kabul. The mob accused Farkhunda of burning the Koran and beat the woman with sticks and stones, eventually setting her on fire, as the police looked on. The brutal murder was captured on video and circulated across the web.
Today the official charged with the investigation of her death says he “couldn’t find any evidence to say Farkhunda burnt the holy Qur’an.” He added: “Farkhunda was totally innocent.”
